JACKSON, Miss.- Mark Mayfield, tea party leader and attorney, charged in the Cochran photo scandal committed suicide this morning.
Mayfield was arrested in May by the Madison Police Department and charged with conspiracy in the case involving pictures taken without permission of Senator Thad Cochran’s bedridden wife with dementia .
Mayfield’s case was set to go before a grand jury in July. The Clarion Ledger reporting he died from a gunshot wound to the head.
