JACKSON, Miss.- The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is hosting their Seventh Annual Safety Fair next month.

“We’re raising awareness about safety issues such as, child-passenger safety, impaired driving, texting and driving, bike and pedestrian safety.” Christy Milbourne, safety education programs director says, “We want to reach out to the community and let them know we have resources available to them and try to educate them some.”

Milbourne says it’s educational, but fun too. “We’ll have different crash simulators there, the Department of Health is going to do a bike rodeo; we’ll have concessions and fun games and stuff for the kids, like a space jump and rock wall too.”

The free event will be held Sat. April 11 and is open to the public. It will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Mississippi Trade Mart on the Fairgrounds in Jackson.

The Safety Fair is sponsored by MDOT, in partnership with Safe Kids Mississippi; Safe Routes to School; Mississippi Department of Health; Mississippi Operation Lifesaver; Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services; Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks; National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of the Central Mississippi Area Inc.; Brain Injury Association of Mississippi; DREAM Inc.; Mothers Against Drunk Driving; American Association of Retired Persons; Mississippi Trucking Association; Wal-Mart’s Committed to Safety Program; MoToSteps Motorcycle Safety Training; American Medical Response; New York Life Insurance Company and Batson Children’s Hospital.
