MDOT urges travel safety during football season

Football season has arrived, and that means hitting the road to support our favorite college teams. The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) knows how serious game days are for football in the South and provides free travel resources so everyone can make it to the game safe and on time.

This is a Press Release

Before hitting the road, travelers can log onto MDOTtraffic.com for a free account that gives traffic alerts based on the routes you travel most often. These alerts are sent via email or text informing drivers about current road conditions, construction zones, weather alerts and more that can affect your drive.

MDOT also offers a mobile option with the MDOT Traffic App available for download in the Google Play and App stores. Mississippi 511 is available for motorists 24/7 to get the most current traffic conditions in your area.

Football season is an exciting time of the year, and MDOT encourages motorists to use extreme caution when traveling to game day destinations. Always remember to buckle up, remove distractions, follow the posted speed limit and use a designated driver when necessary.

Start and end every game day road trip right with MDOT’s free travel resources. For more information, visit MDOTtraffic.com, download the MDOT Traffic app or call 511.

For more information on how to drive safely in work zones, on new highway safety implementations or during severe weather, visit GoMDOT.com/drivesmartms.
