UPDATE: Meridian firefighter killed after fire truck crashed has been identified

MERIDIAN, Miss.- Officials have released the name of the Meridian firefighter who died after a fire truck crashed while they were responding to a routine call Friday. 

Eric Gustafson was killed when the truck rolled over.

Two other firefighters on board were seriously injured on Friday morning in the accident, local media reported.

Fire Chief Anthony Clayton said it happened around 9 a.m. when three firefighters from Fire Station Number 3 were on their way to a routine call when the truck left the road and crashed.

Mayor Percy Bland said the investigation is ongoing and that officials do not have all the information at this time. The Meridian Police Department is overseeing the investigation in collaboration with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

As the community mourns the loss of this firefighter Chief Clayton assures that continued protection will be provided to the Meridian community through all fire stations.

He had also confirmed that at least one of the two surviving firefighters was in critical condition and being taken to Jackson for further treatment.

No names have been released yet, out of respect for the families.
