The Message is Still Stay Off the Roads Along and South of I-20

MERIDIAN, Miss.–The I-20/59 split is impassable, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Spokesman Warren Strain early Wednesday. Iinterstate 20 all the way to Newton is iced over and points south of there, especially along Hwy. 84 from Natchez to Brookhaven and the Hattiesburg area have been really hit hard by ice and snow, making the highways and bridges slick and dangerous.

He said the best thing to do is stay home.

Strain said the Highway Patrol worked over 350 wrecks and that does not even count what cities and counties worked since the snow started Tuesday.

He said the coast did take a pretty hard hit, but the roads and bridges there were not as bad as they were when they iced over by surprise last Friday.
