Miss. News Briefs: Boy Dies After Motorcycle Wreck, Very Old Giraffe Dies at the Zoo

COLUMBUS, Miss.–Riding a motorcycle can be dangerous business. Ask any mom if she wants her son on a bike or a hog and she’d likely be very adamant against it. One Lowndes County family has been crushed by a bike wreck this weekend. Here are some news briefs for your Tuesday:

BOY DIES FROM BIKE WRECK
It was a motorcycle wreck that killed John Bryant in Lowndes County this weekend and now two funerals. Bryant’s son Kobe Bryant Strickland was also on the bike and he died yesterday at UMMC in Jackson.

EDWARDS HAPPENINGS
It looks like Marcus Wallace may have beaten R L Perkins for mayor of Edwards, 196 to 125. They are counting absentee and affidavit votes today.

And in Edwards it was a shootout right on the town square Tuesday. It was two guys fighting over a woman. And a woman got grazed by a bullet. Police say they got ’em, though.

OLDEST GIRAFFE DIES
Goodbye to one of the oldest giraffes in the country. Diamond lived at the Jackson Zoo, until they had to put her down this week. She was 28 years old, and that’s several years past the average age. She had arthritis and other normal old age problems, says the zoo.

GAS PRICES FALL AGAIN
Watching the gas prices fall, $2.30 is the average today. Tunica is keeping it going with the lowest prices. Stations there have it for $1.97, $1.99 and two bucks.Most expensive, a station in Ocean Springs didn’t get the phone call. It’s $3.29.

MERIDIAN MURDER TO MONTGOMERY
Murder in Meridian and police say they guys they think did it are in Montgomery. WTOK reports cops are going there today to give the two the third degree about the shooting of Reondricus Rogers from Monday night. Might’ve been a random act.
