GULFPORT, Miss.–If you have kids, you know that you’ve got all kinds of reasons to worry. Add one more to the list: a possible kidnapper. Here are some news briefs to kick-start your week. Some of them don’t have as much stress attached:

PHILADELPHIA STABBING
Found hiding in a ditch just after a Phildelphia stabbing, Demetric Gray, and he’s charged with murder. The stabbing happened after at least three people were in a big time fight. Police say Gray grabbed a knife and stabbed and killed Zuave Trice of Georgia. He got stabbed several times. Police say Gray took off, but not before stabbing a woman in the arm. She went to the hospital. Gray went to jail after cops found his hiding place.
DEATH ROW INMATE BACK IN COUNTY LOCKUP
Set to die for killing her husband, Michelle Byrom is getting a new trial and so she’s now off death row and back in Tishamingo. She was transferred to the county lockup this weekend.
HOLLY SPRINGS GAS STATION SHOOTING
Shot in a gas station parking lot in Holly Springs, three people went down with wounds Saturday night about 9 o’clock and police are asking for your help in getting their man. They looked at the video and best they can tell it was a black man wearing a mask. He’s got on a dark colored t-shirt and khaki shorts in the video. If you know who he is, call police.
HOOD’S GUN LOCATED
This is the story of a gun, a gun that belongs to your state attorney general, Jim Hood, that got stolen back in May. It was stolen out of Hood’s truck at the Stein Mart in Jackson and police found it this weekend when they got a domestic call. George Harris told the cops he bought the gun in the parking lot where a gun show was happening.
BUSINESSMAN SOUGHT IN DRUG SWEEP
Meth, crack, ice, prescription pills, it was a big drug bust in Wayne County and a local businessman is on the run. It was the South Miss. Narcotics Task Force, cracking down Friday when they arrested six people. One person is all they have left in this round-up, reports WDAM, and it’s a guy you might know because he has a local appraisal business. Joseph K. Barnett was supposed to turn himself in, but apparently got cold feet. If you know where he is, call Wayne Co. deputies.
GAS
You can’t get gas for under three bucks in the Magnolia State, but you can get it for $3.11 all over the place in Olive Branch. That’s the cheapest in Mississippi. You’ve gor $3.33 for the state-wide average. The most expensive, 3.89 in Hernando.

JAMES BROWN ESTATE
It’s not so good press for the late James Brown, just a week before a movie made in Mississippi about him is shown for the first time. The godfather of soul is actually from South Carolina and that’s where they’re still squabbling about how much money he left behind. Now a judge has ordered the state’s attorney general to turn over all kinds of documents to journalist Sue Summer. She says she doesn’t have a dog in the race, except to make sure Brown’s last wish comes true, and that’s scholarships for young folks. Get on Up gets its first public showing Sunday.
NESHOBA POLITICAL
The chair races are not the only hot events at this year’s Neshoba County Fair. Besides your skin in the July heat, the political speaking is also pretty hot, with senate candidates Travis Childers, on the Democrat ticket, and Republican Thad Cochran, added to the Thursday, July 31 schedule. Former Gov. William Winter is also set to speak that Thursday. News Mississippi will be your Neshoba County Fair headquarters.
GRACELAND TOO TO OPEN
Graceland Too is closed for now, but for one day, you’ll be able to say your goodbyes to its owner…
Paul McLeod died last week, just two days after shooting and killing an intruder. So, Graceland Too and all the Elvis memorabilia is off-limits for now. But not Aug. 12. One day only it’s five bucks a piece to see the collection, and that’ll help pay for McLeod’s funeral. A memorial that night.
