Miss. News Briefs: Hard Times, Drowning at a Water Park, Getting the Guys Back Together

JACKSON, Miss.–If you’re having a hard time getting food on the table these days, you’re like a lot of Mississippians. Here are some news briefs to satisfy your Tuesday appetite for news:

HARD TIMES

With Mississippi getting bad marks on how well you can provide for your family, News Mississippi’s Chelsea Corona went out to find out if you’re having a hard time…

OVERNIGHT SHOOTINGS
If you know anything about this killing, you need to call police. At this hour deputies in Hinds County are still looking for whoever shot a man five times in Terry last night. He’s dead and people were mad about it. So mad that police from Jackson, Raymond and Byram and the SWAT Team were all called in for crowd control.

Another shooting overnight. This one in Lauderdale County near Lost Gap after two guys got into it. One shot the other, but it’s not life-threatening.

NARCOTICS TASK FORCE BACK TOGETHER

These guys are reuniting to fight crime on the coast…

MORE GM RECALLS
There’s more GM car recalls and you might own one of these. There’s just no way to know just how many of these vehicles are in Mississippi, but you need to contact your dealership if you have a Buick LaCrosse, Chevy Impala, Cadillac DeVille, Buick Laserne, Regal LS and GS, and Chevy Monte Carlo, all made between 04 and 2014.

SENATE RACE
The Senate race in Mississippi. The Republican run-off just one week away from today.

You’ll remember those Tea Party and McDaniel people who got locked in the Hinds County courthouse on election night. Now the DA tells WAPT that it was a county employee who let them in. That’s one reason there aren’t any burglary charges against the three. He also says he’s getting ready to wrap up his investigation.

STONE COUNTY DROWNING
Stone County. Flint Creek Water Park, and a drowning Saturday afternoon. The coroner there now saying Facundo Rivera was drunk when he fell off an inflatable lounge chair floatie into water six feet deep. His blood alcohol level, more than twice the legal limit.

LOOK OUT BEFORE YOU PULL OUT
Look out behind you, especially when you’re pulling out onto a busy highway. Like Hwy. 49 in Gulfport. A van full of people hit by a car as they pulled out about 2:40 Monday afternoon. Five people inside. They were lucky. Nobody hurt bad.
