Miss. News Briefs: Judge Says He’s Being Politically Picked On, Dog Beating Update

JONES COUNTY, Miss.–It’s a frame job is what a Jones County judge said for the first time publicly this week. He’s being looked for the way he handles finances and he said Wednesday that it’s the state auditor trying to influence the upcoming election. Here are some news briefs to end the week:

POLITICALLY PICKED ON
A Jones County judge is accusing the state auditor of trying to make him look bad. Judge Billy Joe Landrum, who’s being audited and investigated says Auditor Stacey Pickering is picking on him for political reasons. WDAM reports he said that at a meeting of the Jones County Republican Women Wednesday.

PHILADELPHIA KILLING ARREST
The murder of Marquai Kirkland in Philadelphia, found on the side of the road in May. Philadelphia PD picking up a third person in that killing. Terrance Hunter was arrested and joins Samuel Amos and April Brown, reports WTOK.

DRUG BUST NEAR A PLAYGROUND
Drugs guns and money. It’s high quality pot that will not be making its way to your kids, thanks to a bust Thursday by Hinds County deputies. Sheriff Lewis and his team found four guns, thousands in cash and the marijuana, reports WLBT. They also found Charles Singleton, Nakesha Ferguson, Keith Merchang and Kavunte Casnel. It was also withing 1500 ft of a park, where kids play.

ATTACKS ON INDIAN BUSINESS OWNERS
Attacks on Indian and Isreali business owners, in their homes. Clinton cops arresting Ira McGruder, reports WAPT. and police think it could be related to other attacks in Jackson and Ridgeland. And if that wasn’t low enough, police say he took their money, too.

DOG BEATING UPDATE
That dog beating video where Jonathan Granger was arrested in Rankin County, the guy told police he was just punishing his dog and WAPT reported Thursday that a vet couldn’t find where the dog had been hurt. But Sheriff Bryan Bailey still has the dog and it’s up to the judge whether or not it goes back to Granger.

MISSISSIPPI FUGITIVE CAUGHT IN SHREVEPORT
Wanted in Mississippi, caught in Shreveport, it’s Jamaro Kennedy. He was wanted for the armed robbery of a Dollar General in Gulfport. He took his trade to Shreveport, say police there, where he held up a Chipotle Restaurant.
