Miss. News Briefs: Neighborhood Shot Up and Where the Water is Still Nasty

COLUMBUS, Miss.–You might be pretty irate if somebody decided to destroy the peace in your neighborhood by shooting up a house, especially one with people in it. Now Columbus Police are having to pick up after the mess at least two guys left behind. Here are some news briefs to get you over the hump:

NEIGHBORHOOD SHOT UP
Violence in Columbus and now police say they have two of the guys that shot up a neighborhood. Imagine gunshots on a Monday morning where you live. That’s what the folks in a Columbus neighborhood had to deal with and now Antonius Vonshay Williams and Christopher Armstrong are in jail. WCBI reports Armstrong has a violent past and was released from prison last year. The men are charged with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

RAISES IN JACKSON COUNTY
If you wanted a raise and didn’t get one, here’s how they are doing it in Jackson County. It’s a two percent raise for custodians and receptionists, bus drivers and cafeteria workers and other non-certified employees in the local schools. Supervisors did it because the teacher pay raise did not include non professional staff and they haven’t had a raise since 07. It was an adjustment by supes to set aside $200,000 for the raises.

METH BUST
Meth in Mississippi. You wish it was gone, but it’s still being made and sold and this time the neighbors told police they needed to be looking at Karen Byrd, and Gregory Cates in Alcorn County, and they were right. Cops found the nasty chemicals in the house.

MURDER ARREST, ONE YEAR LATER
Shot in the face, wrapped in plastic and left on church property in the capital city. That happened to Felicia Spann one year ago and now police have Haneefah Muhammed in jail for it.

NASTY WATER, STILL
Just how nasty the water is in Holmes County’s West Hill Water Association, state health dept. says you still cannot drink it, or even take a shower in it.

MERIDIAN CARJACKING LADY
If you know where Sancarious Dougie Overstreet is, call Meridian Police. He’s the guy they want for a carjacking and the cops say he was the guy with the gun. They popped Charlsa Donahue and they say she was in cahoots with him, charged with auto burglary.
