Miss. News Briefs: Retro Rape Arrest, Where You Could See Big Traffic Trouble

BILOXI, Miss.–Imagine living next door to a guy cops are looking at for a rape. People in Biloxi have been doing that for years, but now he’s locked up…in Oklahoma. Here are some news briefs, some of which will make you feel safer:

MISSISSIPPI MAN ARRESTED IN OKLAHOMA RAPE
Rape in Oklahoma in 1982, that’s what Gilbert Harris of Biloxi’s been charged with and cops in Norman have been looking at him since 1996, when they had to let another guy out because of DNA evidence.

ARMED ROBBERY ARRESTS
Having a gun put in your face and hearing gimme the money. Happened Saturday night to a man in Lauderdale County and now Robert T. Sellers, Robert Austin Scribner, and Jeremy Mathis are under arrest.

DEPUTY GETS PROBATION
Punching an inmate who spat on him back in 2012. Former Monroe County Deputy Danny Earl Starks gets probation.

K-9 VESTS
They’ve been protecting and serving you for years and they’ve been doing it without vests, until now…

49/I-59 PROBLEMS
One of the state’s main north and south highways is gonna give you trouble today after a big rig driver made a big mistake Monday. It’s Hwy. 49 south in Hattiesburg, and the I-59 overpass. There’s a big hole in the bottom of the I-59 bridge after an 18-wheeler trailer got stuck under it yesterday. MDOT used two big rigs to get it unstuck, but big pieces of concrete are now missing from the bottom of the bridge and you’re being asked to find a different route. That’s gonna affect I-59, Hwy. 49 and some of the ramps, too.

TO CATCH A RAPIST
Getting a rapist off your streets. That’s what U.S. Marshals say they did in Oxford Monday afternoon when they picked up Bradley Glenn, wanted for rape in Mobile.

MOLESTOR GUILTY
Keeping your kids safe: Guilty was the plea Monday from Billy Pat Graves of Covington County on child molestation charges. He’ll be sentenced August 18, and could get 15 years or more. He’s 76.

JAILER JUMPED
Prison life can be rough if you’re a jailer, not just an inmate. A jailer got jumped Sunday at the Lauderdale County lockup and had to go for stitches to his face. They’re looking to rearrest whichever inmate did it.

CANDIDATE DOESN’T WANT BYRD’S HELP
This candidate for sheriff says he’s not interested in an endorsement from a convicted felon…
