Miss. News Briefs: Vandals at a Local High School and the Fireman Turned Firebug

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss.–It’s nothing you’d want your kids involved in. Vandalism at Harrison High. But, police believe they’ll be able to catch the guys pretty quick. Here are some news briefs to make your Thursday fly pretty quick into Friday:

FIREMAN TURNED FIREBUG
It’s a fireman turned firebug. He was supposed to fight fires, but instead he set one in Lamar County in 2013. Michael Graham Davis, former volunteer fireman, pleads guilty to arson, now has to pay $45,000 in restitution.

MURDERED MAN SHOT IN THE GROIN
Shot in the groin. That’s how Lamont Haynes of Gulfport died Tuesday night, says the corner there. He bled out after he was shot. Police are looking for two black guys who were wearing bandanas when they busted in to the house. It’s in the same neighborhood where little Janaya Thompson was kidnapped and murdered last week.

MISS. POWER SCAM
It’s a scam alert. News Mississippi has learned that you need to be on the lookout for men in a Mississippi Power disguise…

AIRLINE CONFIRMED IN MERIDIAN
Getting you in and out of Mississippi. It’s Express Jet for sure in Meridian. The feds gave the new airline the green light this week. That’s after Silver Airways said they were pulling out earlier this year. Express Jet Meridian to Hattiesburg and then to Dallas-Fort Worth.

WRECK KILLS LAUDERDALE CO. MAN
A wreck on Hwy. 45 in Lowndes County Wednesday and Deon Herlong of Lauderdale is dead. He was rear-ended by an 18-wheeler.
