Mississippi-bound Plane Crashes Near Chattanooga, One Person Dead

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn.–A small plane crash near Chattanooga, in the Tennessee suburb of Collegedale, has killed the pilot. The plane was bound for Jackson, Miss.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon about 3:30. WRCB TV reported that the plane went down in an industrial area and that the pilot was the only person on board.

Whether or not that pilot was from Mississippi was still unclear Thursday morning. No ID had been released.

“It is confirmed a single engine light, small air craft,” said David Myrick, Collegedale Police Department spokesperson.

The plane was a Lancair 4 P to be exact, owned by Empire Equipment, LLC in Knoxville.

“At this time we know there was one soul onboard. It is a confirmed fatality,” said Myrick. He said he did not believe the crash was weather-related.

But, what caused the plane to go down is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, so local authorities were not saying much.
