Mississippi high school band becomes first to march in historic NYC parade

DeSoto Central High School will become the first Mississippi high school band to participate in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City.

The school will be just one of the hundreds of group’s participating in the yearly tradition, which dates back to 1762. Last year, there were over 150 marching bands in the parade.

The event starts at precisely 10 a.m. C/T, March 17th, in honor of St. Patrick, the Patron Saint of Ireland and of the Archdiocese of New York.

According to the events website, the New York City St. Patrick’s Parade is the oldest and largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the world.
