Mississippi Pilot Killed in Texas Crash

COLUMBUS, Miss. – A Columbus Air Force Base (CAFB) pilot instructor and his brother have died in a plane crash in Texas.

According to the CAFB, Air Force Major Richard W “Tracer” Schafer III, 35, was flying his private aircraft while on vacation with his family when it went down Sunday.  His brother Matthew Schafer, 28, also died.

The other passengers, Victoria Schafer, 31, and Wyatt Schafer, 2, survived.  The cause  of the crash is not known at this time.  The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
