Mississippi statehood stamp joins bicentennial celebration

For the 200th year of statehood for the State of Mississippi, the United States Postal Service has released a commemorative stamp, which highlights the state’s contribution to music.

The stamp features the hands of Jimmy “Duck” Holmes’ hands playing the guitar.

Governor Phil Bryant said “These hands represent all of the struggle and the joy of music… and the hours of enjoyment and entertainment by those that are blues artists.”

This weekend at the GULFPEX 2017 event, which is considered the best stamp show in the state, the Forever statehood stamp was honored with a dedication ceremony. The show also featured a souvenir pictorial cancellation and keepsakes of the statehood stamp.
