Mississippi TV Stations Raise Money for Tornado Victims

JACKSON, Miss. – Raycom TV stations across the state are doing an all day Telethon to help out people effected by December tornadoes in South Mississippi. WDAM, WLBT, WLOX, and WMC have joined together with the Greater Pine Belt Community Foundation to raise money and awareness.

“We don’t really have a goal in this, we are just trying to raise money and raise awareness. Our main thing is, it’s so often an event like this happens and there is a lot of attention right out of the gate. We want to make sure there that there are some funds that last a little while and some attention stays on this area,” said WDAM News Director Nick Ortego.

On December 23 several homes and businesses were destroyed in Marion County, Jones County, and surrounding areas. Also dozens were injured and five people were killed.

To donate call 1-844-281-5609, or text the word HOPE to 601-777 or visit WDAM’s website at http://www.wdam.com/category/294067/mississippi-tornado-relief-hope-help-healing
