Mississippi Weekend: Fish, fireworks, and family

Whether it’s an early start to the 4th of July or just a weekend with the family, there’s plenty to do in Mississippi this weekend.

Head to Hernando for Fireworks on the Farm at Cedar Hills Farm. The kids can bring swim suits and towels, bring chairs out for the family, and enjoy a day at the farm to get an early celebration of Independence Day. As soon as the sun goes down, the sky will light up with a firework show that’s fit for all ages. The event is Sunday, with the show starting at dusk.

Then in Columbus, celebrate Independence Day and Mississippi’s Bicentennial at Fireworks on the Water.
The event is Saturday, July 1, 5-10 p.m., at the Columbus Lock and Dam, Wilkins-Wise Road. Enjoy a variety of food vendors, fun children’s activities and an outstanding fireworks display as we celebrate the birth of our state and our nation Everyone is invited.

In Ridgeland, it’s the Independence Day Celebration on the Ross Barnett Reservoir. Head to Old Trace Park for a Kids Zone, vendors, military display, fenders and fireworks show and more. The event is Saturday, starting at 8am and going through the night.

Then make your way to the Coast for the 70th Annual Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in Gulfport. Eager anglers fish the Gulf waters for days, competing for cash and prizes in 30 categories of both saltwater and freshwater fish. This event is all weekend long, starting Friday and running through July 4.
