Mississippi’s House Speaker on Listening Tour, Your Chance to be Heard

JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi House Speaker Philip Gunn, R-Clinton, kicked off his third MS Solutions – An Ideas Tour this week in the Metro Jackson area.

“It seems to be well received,” he said, after wrapping up the first of eight non-partisan town hall style meetings in Ridgeland Monday morning. “People enjoyed the opportunity, I think, to come and have their legislators hear what’s on their minds.”

The meetings take about an hour and Gunn said it’s a good way to hear what’s on the minds of Mississippians.  “Sometimes they present concerns that we really don’t have an answer for.  We go back and study the issues and see if we can come up with a solution.  Sometimes they do provide us with good ideas for legislation.  But it’s just good to let people be heard.”

Gunn said Monday’s turnout was high and participants had a wide variety of concerns. “Some range from education related issues, to second amendment rights, to civil liberties.”

Those unable to attend any of the meetings can submit ideas through the Speaker’s website, Facebook page and on twitter using #MSSolutions14.
