Mistrial Declared After Key Witness Was Murdered

Yazoo City, MISS–It is about a murder trial. He was a witness and less than 24 hours before he was to take the stand, he was shot and killed while driving.

Perry Bernard Hollins, 28, was going downhill when he was shot. Hollins’ car hit a ditch and then flipped. That’s how the cops found him when they arrived to the scene.

Hollins was killed in Yazoo City Monday night. He was set to testify in the murder case against Jelani Miles on Tuesday.

Police say Miles killed Cortez Tate back in 2011. On Wednesday the Yazoo City Circuit Court declared a mistrial because of the events taking place. The trial will start again in November. Yazoo City Police and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation are still looking into the case but no one has been arrested in Hollins’ death.

The family tells WLBT there was a second shooting Tuesday night and that’s when someone shot up Jelani Miles’ brother’s house.
