MSU Game Week: Joe Moorhead Suspends Nick Fitzgerald For Saturday’s Opener

Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead’s first game week press conference included a bombshell, as he revealed senior quarterback Nick Fitzgerald was among three players suspended for Saturday’s season opener against Stephen F. Austin.  Moorhead told the media the suspension is a result of a violation of team policy stemming from an incident that occured this past March.  In addition to Fitzgerald, senior defensive tackle Cory Thomas and junior offensive guard Michael Story will not dress out for the Bulldogs.

Moorhead stated that sophomore quarterback Keytaon Thompson would get the start, and had been receiving reps with the first team since the team moved into game preparation mode on Friday of last week.  True freshman Jaylen Mayden and sophomore Logan Burnett are listed as the backups on the initial depth chart.  Fitzgerald will return to the lineup as the starter in Week 2 when the Bulldogs travel to Kansas State.
