OMAHA, Neb.–The Miss. State Bulldogs are headed home with heads held high after a second defeat by the UCLA Bruins Tuesday. The 8-0 loss means the season is over for the “Diamond Dawgs” and they are headed back to Starkville after one of their most successful deadons in the program’s history.

”To beat us like they did today, and to do what they did to our pitching staff, which I think is one of the best in the nation,” Bulldogs right fielder Hunter Renfroe told FOX Sports, ”we didn’t do what we were supposed to do. We didn’t put up run support like we should have.”

But, the Bulldogs have every reason to celebrate. They were able to rally incredible support from their home state, with Twitter and Facebook lighting up to tell the Dawgs that, no matter the fans’ school affiliation, the home team had their backing.

From Twitter:

From all past, present, and future alumni and fans of all ages – I say Thank You to this 2013 Bulldog Team!! You have represented MSU with talent, dignity, pride and class!! We are all so proud of you!!!! You make us all proud to be BULLDOGS!!

Proud to be a BULLDAWG!! Excited to be meeting some of them this weekend!!

So glad to have had the opportunity to go to Omaha and support these men who have given their all.

It’s now on to Dudy Noble Field in Starkville Thursday for a season celebration. Gates are open at 5.
