MSU, Southern Both Pull Off Wins Against the Odds

BATON ROUGE, La.–If you thought it was going to be another one of those MSU v. LSU match-ups where the Tigers pull off a win right at the end, you were wrong. Saturday’s win against LSU (No. 8) at Baton Rouge brings their record to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in SEC play.

Their victory was 34 to 29, with a 21 point lead in the 4th that was almost squeezed down by LSU. State started strong, scoring in the 1st.

Quarterback Dak Prescott had 373 offensive yards, completing 15 of 24 passes.

MSU has an off week this coming Saturday, but hosts Texas A&M at home Oct. 4.

In Hattiesburg, it was another victory for Southern Miss. as they took on Appalachian State and squeaked past 21-20.

Head Coach Todd Monken said the team never stopped fighting.

“All the way to the last play. That’s been a staple of those guys. If you’ve watched our guys up front throughout four games, they’ve never taken a PAT or field goal off,” he said.

That brings their record to 2-2. Conference play starts for USM next week in Hattiesburg as they take on Rice.
