Murder by Hammer: Winona Woman Beaten, Strangled, Police Looking fr Her Son

WINONA, Miss.–Beaten to death with a hammer and strangled, that’s how police in Winona say Cheryl Burress died and now they are looking for her son for questioning.

Burress’ body was found Saturday night. Police told media the 55-year-old died of blunt force trauma to the head and that her body was being autopsied at the state crime lab. She was likely killed Friday.

If that’s not disturbing enough, her son, Timothy Burress, is wanted as a person of interest. A woman named Amanda Grant may have been arrested at the scene. It was unclear what her relationship to the victim was, or why she may have been there.

Burress’ body was found in her bed.

If you know where the son may be, call Winona Police or Crimestoppers.
