A Mississippi National Guardsman was shot and killed at a Sardis gas station over the weekend.

24-year-old Robert Roberson, who returned from his deployment to Kuwait in March, was killed outside of the Circle Z gas station on HWY 51 & HWY 315 in Panola County on Saturday morning.

The lead investigator with the Panola County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 18-year-old Mark Burton Jr. has been arrested and charged with Roberson’s murder.

Burton and Roberson had what authorities are calling an “ongoing feud” for the past few weeks, and the two were allegedly arguing outside of the gas station before the shooting occurred.

Burton made his initial appearance in court this morning and was denied bond.

The investigation is ongoing.

Roberson was a Specialist with the 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team that was mobilized to Kuwait as a part of Operation Spartan Shield in March 2018.
