New gator record set in Mississippi

PORT GIBSON, Miss.- With alligator season only open for a few days, one Vicksburg woman took advantage and caught the record largest alligator in Mississippi public waters.

Tiffany Wienke said she, and six other hunters, noticed the gator’s large head hovering just near the surface of the water Saturday night.

From there, they were able to hook the animal and secure it. However, it took nearly two hours from start to finish to ultimately kill the animal and lift it into their boat.

The gator was 686 pounds and measured in at 13 feet, 7 7/8 inches. That’s one-eight inch larger than the previous record set in 2013.
