New power line coming to Mississippi

Tennessee Valley Authority is planning to build a new transmission line in the Flowood area. This will provide power for growing load and increase power reliability.

The new 4.5-mile transmission line will begin at an existing transmission line and extend southwest to the new Flowood Substation.  Central Electric Power Association’s new substation will be located on the southwest corner of the intersection of Mississippi Highway 471 and Vine Drive.

The new line would consist of steel poles centered on new 100-foot-wide right of way.

Surveys of the right of way are scheduled to begin this fall, construction is scheduled to begin in summer 2020 and the line is scheduled to be in service in winter 2020-2021.

TVA held an open house in April 2018 to discuss the project and answer questions. A 30-day comment period followed the open house. This route is expected to have the least impact on the area, based on public input from the open house and additional evaluation of other factors, including social, environmental and engineering impacts.

This is the 15th power line TVA has brought to Mississippi after 14 others have been installed across the state.
