No end in sight for Mississippi drought

JACKSON, Miss. – Dry weather is expected to continue this week, with statewide temperatures rising above the seasonal average.

“We’re expecting dry conditions through the rest of the week and warmer than normal temperatures,” Mike Edmonston with the National Weather Service said.

There is one exception, however, as South Mississippi could see some showers mid-week.
“Across the Hattiesburg area we’re gonna hold a slight chance of rain, Wednesday afternoon, extending up into east Mississippi,” said Edmonston.

Edmonston says the biggest issue this week will be trying to prevent wild fires.

“Unfortunately dry conditions will continue and fire weather concerns are probably are biggest issue in the forecast for the next week,” he said.
