JACKSON, Miss.- Mississippi GOP leader Joe Nosef was originally nominated for the short list to take the place of Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Convention.

Nosef announced that after voting on Thursday President-elect Donald Trump selected Ronna Romney McDaniel, Chairman of Michigan’s Republican Party for the position.

“The choice of President-elect Donald Trump was Ronna Romney McDaniel, the niece of Mitt Romeny. She has been the chairman of Michigan for several years,” said Nosef.”Michigan was obviously a big win for us this year and so she’s going to be the new chairman that is going to take over.”

But Mississippi’s own Nosef wasn’t left empty handed. He was selected to be one of two people to lead the Southern Region for the RNC which is comprised of 14 states.

Nosef said he hopes to play a large role as a Vice Chairman of the RNC and leader for the south moving forward.

“I think Ronna McDaniel is going to do a good job and we will certainly work hand in hand with the White House as well,” said Nosef.
