Number of teen births continue to drop

JACKSON, Miss. – Teen birthrates across the country continue to fall. According to a report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 2.2 percent of teens aged 15-19 gave birth in 2015.

Birth rates for those in their 20s dropped as well, while pregnancy rates for women in their 30s and 40s rose.In 2015, 40 percent of births were by unmarried women.

When it came to healthy deliveries in 2015 the results were mixed.
 The number of preterm births rose slightly to near 9.6 percent, the first increase since 2007. While the number of cesarean deliveries fell for the third year in a row.
