Oil Well Explosion Sends at Least Five to the Hospital

WAYNE COUNTY, Miss. — At least five people have been hurt, some critically, after an oil well blew out and burst into flames earlier today in Wayne County.

The well is operated by Mossbacher and caught fire while a crew from Rapad, Inc., out of Laurel was working on the well.  No cause for the blaze has been determined.

According to emergency personnel on the scene, five workers were taken to Wayne General Hospital with various injuries, specifically burns. Officials said one man was severely burned and could be classified as being in critical condition. Many of the injured were later transported to either burn centers or medical centers in Jackson.
