Pearl police investigators arrested a high school student who admitted to lying about overhearing talk of a shooting being carried out by another student.

The post went viral smearing the innocent students name over social media and creating an uproar within the school and throughout the community.

Police assure that there has not been a credible threat made.

Lt. Brian McGairty said the teen spreading the lie was arrested and turned over to the Rankin County Juvenile Detention Center. He was unable to give the students name due to the student being a juvenile, however, he confirmed that it was a Pearl High School student .

The Pearl Police Department confirmed the arrest in a statement made on their Facebook page.
