Pearl River/Marion County Dam in Danger of Breaking

PEARL RIVER COUNTY, Miss.- A dam located on a 50 acre lake in Amackertown is in danger of breaking.

The lake is one to two miles away from the Pearl River/Marion County Line, near Highway 43 North.

Emergency officials said the dam is in “imminent danger” of breaking.

All people should stay clear of that area until a contractor fixes the dam. The Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department has notified those residents of the threat. No other homes, structures or roads should be affected by the breach.

The National Weather Service said that is the only structure in the area that poses any threat.

A private contractor has been brought to the scene to perform a controlled breach to relieve pressure on the dam and mitigate the emergency situation.
