Possible tornado hits east central Mississippi

Parts of Scott County are recovering after being hit by Tuesdays storms.

The severe weather left uprooted trees and downed power lines.

The National Weather Services (NWS) has yet to officially confirm that a tornado was the cause of such destruction. NWS crews will be in Scott County by 8 a.m., Wednesday and are expected to determine the cause of the damage by the early afternoon.

As of 6:45 p.m., Southern Pine Electric, Mississippi Power and Entergy Mississippi reported that close to 550 customers are without power across central and east central Mississippi. The majority of those outages being reported in Jasper County.

According to the NWS hail the size of ping-pong balls hit parts of Leake, Neshoba and Rankin counties.
