Prison death in Lamar county

LAMAR COUNTY, Miss.- An inmate at the Mississippi Correctional Institution in Greene County died Wednesday night around 8:20 p.m.

Howard “Lil Dank” Payton, 38, was pronounced dead according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

He was serving time after a conviction in January for the kidnapping and repeated rape of a woman in 2010. According to his charges, on September 19, 2010 Payton did willfully, intentionally, and feloniously, without lawful authority for doing so, forcibly seize, confine, and kidnap with intent to cause the victim to be confined or imprisoned against her will, by forcing the victim into a vehicle and holding her against her will.

He was also charged for three counts of rape with the victim.

He was set to stand trial for additional rape charges later this year.

MDOC has not released any further details from Payton’s autopsy due to an ongoing investigation.
