Prison Riot at Walnut Grove: As Many as Six Stabbed, One Arrested Outside

WALNUT GROVE, Miss.–There was a prison riot at the Walnut Grove Correctional Facility in Leake County Thursday night and as many as six people may have been stabbed and taken to UMMC in Jackson.

The riot started about 10:30 p.m., according to News Mississippi affiliate 98.3, The Groove.

It was unclear just how long the riot lasted.

At least one person may have been arrested outside the prison, charged with trying to bring contraband inside. Cops were not saying just what that contraband may have been.

The prison is run by Management and Training Corp. and that company has taken criticism for previous riots, disturbances, and conditions at its Mississippi facilities, including the ones at Walnut Grove.
