A Purvis man will serve 45 years in prison for child molestation and statutory rape.

41 year-old Phillip Don Lawson was sentenced to two terms of 15 years and one term of 30 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. The 15 year sentences are to run concurrent with each other and consecutive to the 30 year sentence.

Lawson was found guilty of two counts of child molestation and one count of statutory rape on May 3rd.

District Attorney Hal Kittrell made a statement about the case.

“In essence, Lawson will serve 45 years in prison, day for day, with no possibility for early release,” said Kittrell. “He deserves every minute of this sentence for not only taking the innocence of a child, but for abusing the trust of a child who was entrusted to his care as a family member.”

Lawson was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Anthony Mozingo.
