Remembering Ja’Naya with Candlelight, A Vigil for Murdered Gulfport Toddler

GULFPORT, Miss. – A candlelight vigil will be held Saturday night in front of the vacant Gulfport mobile home were a 5-year-old was found dead last month.

Members of the Memphis based group Operation Help Civil Rights Group say they want to show support for Ja’Naya Thompson’s family, ensure justice is served and help raise awareness of child safety.

Thompson’s body was found July 17 and police believe she was kidnapped and sexually assaulted.  Alberto Garcia is charged in the case and is being held with no bond.  His preliminary hearing is set for August 29.
