Representative Steve Holland announces retirement plans

JACKSON, MISS– Longtime democratic representative Steve Holland announced his plan to retire on the House floor Wednesday.
Holland has served as the district 16 representative, which is Lee and Monroe counties, since 1984.

“I’m turning in my retirement papers tomorrow at 5pm,” Holland said from the house floor during the legislative session.

The self-described “frickin’ loud and proud liberal” representative said that he’s still praying about his plans.

“I work by the will of the people,” Holland added in his speech.

For 33 years, Holland has served Monroe and Lee counties in the House. He served on the Appropriations, Banking and Financial Services, Conservation and Water Resources,  Medicaid and Transportation committees.

While Holland did give a time to turn in his papers, he expressed apprehension.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do,” said Holland. “I have to pray about it.”

Holland also runs a funeral business.
