Robbery victim accidentally shoots himself

On Sunday night, Hattiesburg Police officers responded to a report of a shooting at Wal-Mart on Highway 49.

When officers arrived, they met with witnesses on scene that said a white male was approaching people in the parking lot, asking for money.

According to the victim, the white male attempted to rob him and the victim then pulled a gun and accidentally shot himself in the hand.

The victim drove himself to a local hospital where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and released.

The white male was taken into custody and transported to the police department for questioning.

35 year-old Justin Niehoff of Hattiesburg has been charged with one count of robbery in connection to the incident at Wal-Mart.

He is currently booked in to the Forrest County Jail.
