Runoff election results are in: two republicans to take office

The runoff for Senate District 10 in Tate and Marshall counties was held yesterday.

The runoff was between democrat Sharon Gipson and Neil Whaley, a Republican.

Whaley defeated Gipson in the runoff election and now he will take over for Bill Stone in the office that was once held by the Democrat Minority Leader in the Senate.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann said that each candidate ran without a party designation as candidates in Mississippi special elections are required to run without party labels.

Hosemann added that all of the runoff elections will be certified in the next 10 days.

and the runoff in House District 54, in Warren and Yazoo counties, was between Dr. Randy Easterling a family practice physician and Kevin Ford an insurance company owner.

Hosemann confirmed that Ford won the vote.
