Saturday heat rises to dangerous temps, cooling expected for Sunday

JACKSON, MISS– Peak heat indices are expected to exceed 110 across much of the state Saturday, but Sunday could those temperatures down.

With temperatures in the upper 90’s in the forecast statewide for Saturday, the National Weather Service said one should take frequent breaks for rest and water if working outside. Temperatures will reach 96-97 across the Delta and into Central Mississippi, and South Mississippi won’t be much cooler with highs still hitting 95.

Throughout Saturday there is a chance of rain hanging at 40 percent for much of the state, with overnight lows in the mid to upper 70’s.

Sunday, while still humid, will see temperatures a good bit cooler. Low to mid 90’s statewide and a 60 percent chance of rain will bring noticeably cooler temps, and overnight lows will drop into the mid 70’s.
