Saturday Morning Fires in Jones County and Jackson Take Homes, Dogs

JONES COUNTY, Miss.–It was a fire that is still being investigated that left a Jones County family without anything Saturday morning. The same thing happened in Jackson Saturday and in both fires, the families lost their pets.

Victoria Kirby woke up in time to smell smoke and call 911 before she got the kids out of the house as it burned in the Jones County community of Rustin. Rocky, their dog, did not make it. Several rural fire departments responded and what the fire didn’t get, water and smoke did.

WDAM published the sizes for the family, if you would like to help them get clothes:

Victoria: 12 pants, L shirt, 10 shoes.
Jason: 32×34 pants, L shirt, 12 shoes.
Hastin, 9: 12 pants, L shirt, 5 shoes.
Westin, 5: 5-6 pants, 5 shirt, 13 shoes.

In Jackson, about the same time, a fire destroyed a family’s home on Forest Park Dr. The family got out, but, again, the dog did not.

The fire may have started outside the home, reported WAPT.

The Red Cross is helping that family.
