SCAM ALERT: Be Careful With This Caller, Says Lee County Sheriff

LEE COUNTY, MISS– The Lee County Sheriff’s Department is warning you about a phone scam. The caller says he’s with the IRS and you owe money.

The red flag in this scam is that the caller will ask you to pay the debts by purchasing a pre-paid debit card. The IRS doesn’t work that way.

“We just wanted to put this warning out to let people know that it is ongoing again and if you are an individual that receives one of these calls, we are asking that you contact your local law enforcement agency,” Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnson tells WTVA.

Avoid giving information to these callers, and try to get a phone number for when you turn them in, says the sheriff.
