Scam Alert: Email Says Head to Court, But Scammers Want Your Information

JACKSON, MISS– The Mississippi Office of Courts warns that there’s an email circulating that says you need to be in court. Scammers are using that email to get your personal information.

A statement from the Court’s office says the email reads like this:

Notice to Appear,

This is to inform you to appear in the Court on the September 12 for your case hearing.
You are kindly asked to prepare and bring the documents relating to the case to Court on the specified date.
Note: If you do not come, the case will be heard in your absence.
You can review complete details of the Court Notice in the attachment.

By clicking that attachment, you’re granting access for the scammers to collect personal and sensitive information from your computer.

If you get an email requesting that you come to court, call the courthouse listed in the email to verify if you’re actually needed to go before the judge.
