Scam Alert: Oxford Police Warn of Phone Scheme to Get Your Money

OXFORD, Miss– You would bail family out of jail, no questions asked. These phone scam artists know that and are using it to their advantage.

It’s a phone scam in Oxford. News Mississippi has learned that The Oxford Police Department has been told that a caller pretends to be a family member with money problems and needs help.

In one particular complaint, a man says the caller claimed to be his grandchild and needed bail money for jail out of state. The man says he told the person to call back in five minutes. In that time, the man called his real grandchild and determined that the caller was pretending to be the grandson to get money.

Oxford police say you’ll need to exercise all caution before giving away any information on the phone. Give them a call if you think you’re being scammed.
