Second MSU assistant joins Alabama staff

The turnover on the Mississippi State football staff continues.

DL Coach Brian Baker will leave Starkville to join the staff at Alabama despite recently signing a 2-year extension.

The Bulldog defense as a whole was dominant in 2018, but it all started up front. Baker’s unit, led by Montez Sweat and Jeffrey Simmons, was the key to MSU’s success. Both players could be 1st-round picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, and Baker was able to maximize their talent while they wore the maroon & white.

Baker’s departure comes after RB coach Charles Huff also left for Tuscaloosa, OC Luke Getsy took a job with the Green Bay Packers, and strength coach Anthony Piroli joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ coaching staff.

MSU has since hired UConn RB Coach Terry Richardson as the program’s new assistant head coach and RB coach.
