Senators encourage students to apply for “Spirit of Community” award

The National Service Congressional Caucus is encouraging Mississippi students to apply for the 2018 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program. 

Applications are being accepted from now until Nov. 7, 2017 for the Prudent Spirit of Community Awards Program. The students selected for this award are those who contribute to their communities through voluntarism and acts of service.

Two students will be selected from grades 5-12 in Mississippi. The two selected will receive a $1,000 scholarship and a trip to Washington D.C. April 28 – May 1, 2018.

“The Spirit of Community program recognizes youth whose good work make their schools and communities better. I’m proud of the community service and volunteerism that characterizes Mississippi, particularly among our youth,” said Sen. Thad Cochran. “I encourage students from across the state to apply for this honor.”

Applications can be found at www.nassp.org/spirit or http;//spirit.prudential.com. Applicaitons must be printed, signed, and submitted by Nov. 7.
