Several Mississippi Wrecks Leave People Dead, Hurt Over the Weekend and Into Monday

TUPELO, Miss.–Several wrecks over the weekend and a big one Monday morning have left Mississippians dead and hurt. Two people from Fulton were killed when they hit head-on on Hwy. 25 Saturday, just after noon.

The Highway Patrol said Rebecca Jarrell, 19, crossed the median and hit a truck head-on. That truck was driven by Daniel Reich, 55. Jarrell died where the wreck happened and Reich was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where he died later.

In Oktibbeha County Sunday night a wreck happened on Hwy. 25, just north of the Winston County line. Two cars that were going north ended up hitting. One of the cars went off the road and hit a pole and rolled.

The other car went over into the south bound lane and hit another car. The Jaws of Life had to be used to cut at least two of the people out and everybody ended up in the hospital in Starkville.

The Highway Patrol says they’re looking into what caused the wreck.

In Jackson about 3 Monday morning a car went off into a ditch on I-20, near Robinson Rd. After a fire crew got to the scene to see about that person, a semi truck hit the fire truck. That caused the interstate to be shut down completely and a major traffic mess that was expected to be a major factor in the morning commute. One person may have died in the wreck.
