Severe Weather Takes Three Lives Over the Weekend in Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. — Strong storms ran through the state over the weekend and killed three people in their wake.

The total number of fatalities on Monday grew by one.

The National Weather Service has confirmed five tornadoes in Mississippi from Friday night through late Saturday night, according to the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency.

  • EF-2 in Coahoma County through Rena Lara.
  • EF-1 in Tate County through Senatobia.
  • EF-2 in SW Bolivar County.
  • EF-0 in Warren County.
  • EF-0 in Hinds County.

A husband and wife were killed in Jasper County, Miss. when their vehicle slammed into a downed tree on a county road Saturday evening.

The other death was from a man in Coahoma County when his mobile home was picked up and slammed down with him inside it.

“Mississippi mourns the losses of those who died in this storm,” Gov. Phil Bryant said. “Deborah and I are praying for their families during this difficult time.”

In total, at least 16 homes sustained major damage in the state and MEMA is continuing to survey the damage.
